Intervention work.
Project
Description: A section of the beach
turned into a generative map and landscape that is constructed
through and charts the travel of visitor to the event.
Background
Theme: Journeys with departure
points and destinations create unseen maps and these maps reveal
things about ourselves, why we like certain places, where we return
to where we visit only once; these factors reveal much about
ourselves and our sense of place. This project will create such a
map (or landscape) developed and created from the collective
journeys and information garnered from visitors to the event. Over
the period of the event this intervention piece will document the
temporary community on the beach in a work that can be re-visited
and explored during the duration of the weekend. The artwork will
work on two levels firstly as a participatory social intervention on
the beach that the public can read and be part of and visually to
appeal to peoples pleasure in patterns and there construction.
Engagement:
This project needs the audience to construct the work. From a
seaside booth the artists will be asking visitors to tell them where
they have travelled from, their age and gender. They will then be
invited to construct a simple one bucket sandcastle at a specific
point they are directed to. The point of construction will be
calculated closely on the distance and direction from which they
have travelled to reach the booth. They will be asked to adorn their
sandcastle with a balloon on a piece of string the length and colour
of which will be base on other information gathered from
participants.
Experience:
Both artists have wide experience with collaborative projects and
work in the public realm. |
